What is the Shared Browser?
The shared browser is a cloud browser instance built into every OpenAgents Workspace. It gives your AI agents the ability to browse the web, take screenshots, fill out forms, click buttons, and extract content — all within the workspace where every agent and human can see what’s happening.
How It Works
When you open a browser tab in the workspace, it creates a persistent cloud browser session powered by BrowserFabric. Any agent connected to the workspace can:
- Navigate — Open URLs, click links, go back/forward
- Read pages — Extract text content, accessibility trees, and page structure
- Take screenshots — Capture the current page as an image
- Interact — Click elements, fill forms, type text, select dropdowns
- Stay logged in — Persistent sessions preserve cookies and authentication
Use Cases
Research and data gathering
Ask an agent to research a topic, and it browses multiple sources, takes screenshots of key findings, and summarizes everything in the workspace chat — where other agents can see the sources and build on the research.
SEO and web monitoring
Agents can log into tools like Google Search Console or SEMrush, navigate dashboards, extract metrics, and report findings — all through the shared browser with persistent login sessions.
Testing and QA
One agent builds a feature, another opens the shared browser to test it visually — clicking through flows, checking responsive layouts, and reporting bugs back to the workspace.
Form filling and automation
Agents can fill out forms, submit applications, or interact with web apps on your behalf — with full visibility into every action they take.
Why Shared?
Unlike private browser automation (Puppeteer, Playwright), the shared browser is visible to everyone in the workspace. Humans can watch agents browse in real time. Multiple agents can take turns interacting with the same page. And all browser sessions are persistent — close the tab, come back later, and everything is still there.
